Everyone’s cutting the cord. The trend is accelerating, with 1 in 5 American homes cutting the cord in 2016 alone. If you do the math, that’s over 60 million people that have said “goodbye” to high cable costs.

But a lot of these people are going to Netflix and Hulu to get their television fix.

I’m here to tell you that there is a better way; a 100% legal way to get television that people in the 80s and earlier used extensively: an indoor TV antenna.

An antenna allows you to receive television signals for your local news, sports channels and even movie channels. You won’t get HBO or other premium channels, but you’ll open up a free catalog of television channels you never knew were available for free.

And an indoor TV antenna eliminates the issues of an outdoor TV antenna, which can lose signals during a storm or be damaged by the wind.

It’s the perfect way to save money while still being able to watch television.

We’re going to be provide you with HD antenna reviews, and we’re going to give you something a little special. Our top product is simply the best-of-the-best, and after hardcore negotiations, we’ve convinced the manufacturer to provide a 50% discount and free shipping to our readers.

It’s a deal that’s too good to pass up, but we also review numerous other models so that you can choose the best indoor HDTV antenna for your home.

Top 5 Best Indoor TV Antennas 2018

Our top 5 indoor antennas

You deserve to have a TV antenna for local channels, and you deserve to have these antenna TV channels on every television. I know what you’re thinking: I want to save money, not spend money.

But a small investment will save you money in the long-term.

Fortune Magazine states that the average cable TV bill in the United States is $103 per month. Talk about a major expense. You’re paying an insane amount of money per month – despite the country you live in – for mere entertainment.

You can outfit your entire home with a long range TV antenna for less than a month of cable.

I don’t want to overwhelm you with the details, so let’s just jump in and see which products will save you money every month that you don’t have to pay the cable company.

#1 Our Offer “SkyLink TV Antenna”

Our Top Pick #1 SkyLink TV Antenna

SkyLink TV Antenna is the company cable companies hate. Your cable company is trying to run SkyLink TV Antenna out of business, and they almost succeeded in the past. What makes this indoor TV antenna so special is that it offers significant advantages over the competition, such as:

Our Top Pick #1 SkyLink TV Antenna
  • 30-mile range (longer range upgrade available)
  • 1080p HD output
  • Dual band reception
  • Up to 100+ premium channels
  • Discreet design
  • Lifetime guarantee
  • Cheaper prices for bulk orders
  • Free shipping (our offer for you)

The channels you may receive, and it all depends on location, are: NBC, FOX, ABC, ESPN, Lifetime, CNN, Disney, TLC, History Channel and so much more.

Your favorite shows are likely available for free.

And there is an optional, 60-mile range upgrade available to get even more channels for free. We’ve tested this antenna extensively, and we’ve found that the TVBuddy Antenna has a longer range than mentioned (35 – 40 miles based off our estimates).

Plug and play, this antenna slays the competition.

Really, there’s no comparison.

A NASA engineer developed this antenna using military technology. Stable and guaranteed, the company is so confident that you’ll love this antenna that they offer a lifetime guarantee. If the antenna is defective or stops working, they’ll replace it.

Do you have multiple televisions? A guest house? A vacation home?

Most people have more than one television in their home.

#2 Amazon Product “Mohu Leaf 50 TV Antenna”

#2 Mohuleaf HDTV Antenna

Thin and effective, the Mohu Leaf is a lot like TVBuddy, but it’s priced much higher, which puts it at a disadvantage. You also won’t be saving money by buying multiple Leaf antennas for your home. This product is priced around $70, but it does offer some great features:

#2 Amazon Product Mohu Leaf 50 TV Antenna
  • 50-mile range
  • 1080p HD
  • Access to free channels
  • 1-year warranty

The Mohu Leaf offers a great range, and for the price, the 50-mile range is great. This is the range you’ll need when living in the mountains or far away from local stations. People living in the middle of the city probably won’t need this large of a range to watch their favorite channels.

And you’ll receive fewer channels than with the TV Fox in most cases.

In total, you’ll receive up to 28 channels (maybe a few more, depending on your area). This means you’ll get all your news and a few movie channels that are in your area. A TV antenna amplifier can help you receive additional channels.

But an amplifier is an additional investment into your indoor TV antenna that may not pay off in the end.

The Mohu Leaf is a great choice if the TV Fox is out of stock.

#3 Amazon Product “ClearStream Micron XG”

ClearStream Micron XG TV Antenna

The Micron XG by ClearStream is a 50+ mile range television antenna, but I found the signal to be more in the 30-mile radius range. The company states that they’re the best performing antenna in the 35-mile range, but I beg to differ.

A great antenna, you will receive free television channels with FullHD where possible. And this antenna features:

#3 Amazon Product ClearStream Micron XG
  • 50+ mile range
  • 6ft cable (small)
  • Inline amplifier
  • 20dbi amplifier

I’m going to be honest and state that the 20dbi amplifier is brilliant because it works amazingly in areas where the signal is weak, but there’s an issue: obstructions will cause the antenna to have a weaker signal.

The design is also bulky and looks more like a napkin holder than an antenna.

So, you will need to place this antenna on a mantle or a place close to the television unlike the previous models we reviewed that can slip right behind the television. It’s a quirk, and if you have the space, this antenna may work wonders for you.

But if you want to conceal the antenna, there is no option to do so.

This isn’t a bad antenna, and I don’t want you to think it is, but for the same price, you can purchase almost 4 TV Fox antennas ($2 or $3 off).

#4 Amazon Product “ClearStream Eclipse Amplified”

ClearStream Eclipse Amplified Indoor Antenna

The Eclipse is an amplified digital TV antenna that boasts a range of 50 miles. Much smaller in design than the previous model on our list, this model comes with a paintable surface to match your interior walls, which is a nice addition for someone placing an antenna for their TV on their wall.

Antennas can and do stick out and look awkward in many cases.

This model features:

#4 Amazon Product ClearStream Eclipse Amplified
  • 50-mile range
  • Paintable exterior
  • 20DB in-line amplification
  • Multi-directional element
  • Lifetime warranty

Every indoor TV antenna needs a warranty, and this model offers one, which is a major bonus. This indoor digital TV antenna has obstruction issues, so the signal can be weakened by placement.

Full 1080p HD is offered where available, and this model does include a TV antenna booster in the design, so you won’t benefit much if you buy another booster.

This isn’t the best HD antenna, but it does work well.

The main issue is that the booster doesn’t provide enough boost if you’re far away from a broadcast tower. And even when a tower is just 30 miles away, a lot of channels don’t come in clearly. Placing the unit on a window seems to help alleviate the problem somewhat, but when on the wall, the signal is simply too weak.

Again, if you’re closer to a broadcast tower or don’t mind an antenna covering a portion of your window, this is a decent antenna.

#5 Amazon Product “Winegard FlatWave Amped FL5500A”

Indoor Antenna Winegard FlatWave Amped FL5500A

The last product on our TV antenna reviews is the Winegard FlatWave FL5500A. This antenna gets great reviews, and the flat design is a welcomed addition after reviewing some of the bulkier items.

Dual-band technology allows for a 50-mile range, and there’s an 18-foot cable included. This HD free TV antenna features:

#4 Amazon Product ClearStream Eclipse Amplified
  • 50-mile range
  • Energy saving power supply
  • VHF/UHF bands
  • 1db digital amplifier
  • Slim design
  • Dozens of free channels

This is the amped version, so there is a built in amplification to allow for a greater range. Location-dependent, you need to know where the nearest broadcast towers are located to get the best reception possible with this indoor TV antenna.

Reliability is the biggest issue with this antenna and why we rated it lower on the list.

Broadcast towers 25 miles away were difficult to pick up. So, there is some concern that the antenna doesn’t provide the same long range as others, even though it does include a booster.

So, since the booster is built in, you won’t be able to extend the signal.

If you live closer to a tower, this antenna works great. But if you live far away from a tower, don’t expect it to offer the 50-mile range it mentions.

What is an Indoor HDTV Antenna?

Showing Indoor TV Antenna

You’ve just read about the best-of-the-best antennas, and after reading the HD, free TV antenna reviews, you’re still unsure of what these products do. See, your cable company charges you for channels that are free in many cases.

The cable box sitting in your home will pick up local broadcast channels from broadcast towers nearby.

Oftentimes, the clarity and reception is better. But, you’re bundling all these channels with a few premium ones and paying a ton of money for the 17 channels you watch (the average channels a person watches).

Indoor TV antennas allow you to tap into these broadcast signals to watch them on your television.

So, you can watch free channels for free.

This includes your local news and many channels that you watch for your favorite television shows, including History and CW network among many others.

The truth is these channels make their money through advertising.

You’ll still see commercials, and the station still receives their money. With the average cable bill going up 4% per year, you stand to save a ton of money with an indoor antenna.

Benefits of the Best Indoor HDTV Antenna

TV Antenna benefits

If you’re still wondering if you’ll benefit from an indoor antenna, you need to check out these benefits for yourself:

  • Save $103 per month without cable (that’s a ton of money)
  • Receive free channels and content
  • Never miss breaking news again
  • Spend your money on vacations, clothes or whatever you want
  • Never enter into another long contract

The truth is that when you cut the cord, you’ll miss some of your television shows and need to rely on the internet for your news.

A TV antenna allows you to see many of the shows you miss while also keeping you connected to the news – it’s the smart way to watch television.

You also won’t support the monopolistic cable companies that squeeze every dime out of their customers.

How to Pick the Best TV Antenna

If there’s one thing we know about, it’s television antennas. We’re experts in the field, and this allows us to offer you professional advice. Now, all antennas offer the same basic goal: free television – the legal way.

But not every antenna is worth the cost.

Think of all the cheap items you’ve purchased that don’t work well. This is the same with TV antennas, but oftentimes, it’s the more expensive products with all the fancy words that don’t work well.

When you go to pick your antenna, keep the following points in mind to make your choice a little easier:

  • Real Range: The range is important because you need to be able to receive a signal from a nearby broadcast tower. If a tower is 100 miles away and you have a 30-mile range, you won’t receive any channels. Try and locate the nearest broadcast towers in your area and see how far you are from them. Also, see what others say about an antenna’s true range because they’re often inflated in product descriptions.
  • Size: Yup, size matters. If an antenna is big and bulky, it won’t match your decor and will stick out. Slim and flat antennas work better and are easily hidden, which makes them the ideal choice.
  • HD Options: No one wants to watch television that’s not digital. The picture quality is subpar, and when a lot of antennas offer full HD function, don’t settle for less. Your picture quality will thank you.
  • Plug and Play: No one has time to deal with a complicated setup. Choose an antenna that offers plug and play functionality.
  • Dual Band: If you want the most channels, a dual band antenna is best. These antennas allow you to receive signals from both broadcasting bands to allow for the utmost channels to be received.

These tips will help you find an antenna that’s perfect for your home.

Final Verdict

Indoor Antenna with more TV Channels

Cable television is an expensive most people can’t afford. If you’re tired of wasting your money – I know I am – it makes sense to cut the cord. Stop wasting over $100 a month on cable when you can outfit your entire home when an indoor TV antenna.

The TV Fox antenna is the best-of-the-best, and when you’re sitting back watching up to 100 channels for free while everyone else is paying crazy amounts, you’ll be proud of your decision to buy an antenna.

It’s the right choice to watch television for free – and it’s legal, too.
